My drawing process | Creating a pattern

Drawing a simple pattern on colored background. Use old scraps of paper and create new artworks!

Today I'm sharing the process of one of my recent patterns. It was a fun project because I quickly did a few backgrounds with gouache and then worked on my favorite part - added details and made a pattern! For this, I used a pencil and a black + green gel pens.

In the beginning, all I had was a pre-made background. Colorful and messy!

Let's start this creative process!

This is how I started! At first, it was simple flowers drawn on a background. Later appeared more and more of them. I doodled two kinds of them and the added a few leaves. To showcase the whole process better, I made a gif!

Get creative with doodles, shapes and draw layers of them. This pattern slowly grew into the field of flowers and leaves and I'm super happy about the result. I instantly framed it and now it decorates our home!

So basically, that's it! It is a super simple and fast way to make a pattern and use it for various projects:

  • wall decoration
  • inserts for scrapbooking
  • a background for lettering
  • cut outs for art journal/smash book
  • a piece to add in a mood board

Let me know what you create!
