How to create layers using watercolor paints

Easy tutorial on how to create layers with watercolors.

Working with watercolor paints is so much fun. It is possible to create so many different effects with it and the work is very fast. A blank page can be filled in seconds! This week I want to show how to make layers and create dept. I'll be drawing some green leaves and later the page will be perfect to use for art journaling.

Let's start!

Gather your supplies and think about the drawing you want to create. Once you have an idea draw the first layer!

  • It is important to let each layer dry. This way your layers won't blend and you will have clear forms. Of course you can work without waiting and see the result. Some rules are made to be broken!
  • Play with colors. Have a pallete or a paper scrap where you can mix different shades. The more colors you use the more dept it will create.

When each layer dries paint on top of it. Make as many layers as you want! I love how colors are mixing with each leave.
