Learn Photoshop Series | How to easily change image colors | Tutorial
In this digital age it is so important to work not only on paper. You need to know programs like photoshop to be able to work on your art with computer. At first it sounds scary, I know! But in these Learn Photoshop Series I will show you how easy it is to transfer your art to computer and polish it! I'm not a pro, but on my way of experimentation I found a way to take care of my art and I want to share this knowledge with ya! Really you just have to know a few simple steps. That's not hard at all. In about 10 minutes or less you can create a beautiful shareable digital version of your art work!
We already discussed how to take care of the background. So up next is:
Changing colors of the image
You digitalize your drawing, make all the adjustments and then comes that feeling when something just isn't right! After some wondering I saw that with a little tweak in colors it is possible to make this feeling go away. I have a good news - that's more than easy to modify and experiment with colors of the drawing. I'm using photoshop cs6 for playing with this flower bouguet. If you own any other version it should be just as easy!
- Open up photoshop and upload your illustration.
At this point your image should be already properly digitized. With transparent or colored background. Of course you can firstly change colors and later work on the background. I find it easier working with colors on the very end!
Click here to see how to remove and clean the background after scanning your art
- Once your art image is uploaded go to Adjustments -> Hue/Saturation.
Slide the hue button to the right/left and see your colors change!
- If you are happy with your colors that's it! For futher adjustments you can adjust how sertain colors look. Go to Adjustments -> Selective Color.
Click on Colors and pick one that you want to work on. Slide the cursor left/right and adjust that color!
Tip: This Selective Color tool is very useful if you have black colors in your drawing and want to keep them that way. When editing Hue they may get a shade of other color. If you use this tool select black color and move all the cursors to the right. This trick should bring all black colors to normal!
- Now save your image or play with other color combinations!
I have so much fun every time editing my illustrations! Hope that this tutorial was helpful for you. If you are wandering about something and don't know where to start, share here! We'll try to find the answer together.
